Over 100 Indonesian artists will be involved so please dip into your pockets and support them. MUMULAND is a non-commercial, non-profit organisation and all excess monies collected will be distributed equally amongst all of the artists involved.
Open from 10am until late, this event promises a unique and inspiring experience featuring various elements of art, fire and music that revive the legendary legacy of The KLF, the UK’s #1 band in the 90s with over 6 million record sales.
What is MUMULAND ?
MUMULAND will be a festival like no other seen before in Bali, with over 23 different activities to appeal to all audiences ! MUMULAND is in fact 4 Festivals in one :
- Body Space (10h00 – 17h00)
MUMULAND is ideal for families and kids of all ages. There will be entertainment, art and dance workshops all day including Horse Riding, Archery, a Treasure Hunt (First prize is a Gold Coin !), Disco Football (not to be missed!) and a Beer Pong Competition (as featured in the 2022 movie “Ticket to Paradise”).
There will also be Kid’s Dance Workshops and a Kid’s DJ Kontest and the chance to perform on the main stage !
- Energy Space (15h00 – 17h00)
MUMULAND will also pay tribute to the Balinese values of WALA, BEBALI and BALI BALIHAN with groups arriving from remote villages all over Bali to perform Legong, Gamelan and Barong, many of whom have never been to Denpasar before !
- Heart Space (17h00 – 19h00)
As the sun sets MUMULAND will become a Heart Space with blessings from 3 pedandas and 20 Mangkus (23) and a beautiful Sound Healing session from Agustian of Yoga Barn, Ubud.
Be amazed by Avant-Garde musical & light performances by Putu Septa and Sraya who has just returned from a tour of California !
- Rave Space (19h00 to late!)
At 7pm we will move to Papua with a Livestream performance from the Pangkor Sagu Dancers from Timika!
At 8pm MUMULAND will be transformed into a replica of an early 1990’s Rave Warehouse starting with Ecstatic Dance from Hoda Fadel followed by a great line-up of 3 DJs, Rap, Death Metal, a Drag Queen, GoGo dancers and much, much more !!!
MUMULAND is a theatrical performance evoking the mysteries of Ancient Sundaland ! MUMULAND/Sundaland was an ancient civilisation that sank below the waves at the end of the last Ice Age, remnants of which remain throughout Indonesia including Gunung Padang near Bandung. MUMULAND evokes the spirit of Ancient Sundaland, described by some archeologists as the true location of the legendary lost continent of MU.
MUMULAND is inspired by a 1991 #1 hit in the UK & USA Singles Charts performed by the UK House Band The KLF (also known as the Justified Ancients of Mumu).
What is the KLF ?
If you are aged between 45 and 65 you will almost certainly remember the KLF !
The KLF (Kopyrite Liberation Front) aka The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, are art icons who have left a profound mark on the world of music and visual art. The K-Foundation continue to shock audiences with their bold, subversive art statements, and worked closely with Banksy on many projects including the dystopian project known as Dismaland in 2015.
They were the best-selling singles band in the world. They had awards, credibility, commercial success and creative freedom.
They deleted their records, erased themselves from musical history and burnt their last million pounds in a boathouse on the Isle of Jura.
At MUMULAND Festival participants can immerse themselves in the mysterious and creative chaos crafted by The KLF, and understand how their bold and controversial actions have influenced contemporary art both globally and in Bali.
The MUMULAND Krew (also known as The KLF Re-enactment Society) are working closely with KLFRS Krews in Papua and around the world to ensure Bali is represented in a Global Livestreamed event on 23rd August 2024 which celebrates an event performed by the KLF exactly 30 years ago.
Throughout the day documentaries will be screened, taking the audience on an in-depth journey into the history and legacy of MUMULAND, The KLF, and the KLFRS Bali Team all known for their controversial media stunts and chaos magic philosophy.
The KLF Reenactment Society (Bali Chapter) is part of a global movement dedicated to promoting the K Foundation, an art foundation established by The KLF, and the controversies surrounding it.
