Top 5 Dive Spots in Bali

An island surrounded by sea with an enchanting underwater world makes Bali a perfect destination for diving. Imagine yourself among coral, cute fish, and large underwater creatures. You don’t want to miss this when you visit Bali! Do you want to discover if diving suits you or do you not have time for a complete diving course? Bali is a great place for an introduction dive. Under supervision, you can dive without a license.

Tulamben

This is one of the best-known diving sites in Indonesia and is among the world’s best diving wrecks. The USAT Liberty should not be missing on your bucket list for Bali. That this dive site is one of the most special diving locations is not surprising because it’s an idyllic spot. The 120-meter USAT Liberty wreck is a 5-minute boat ride parallel to the coast of Kubu.

This shipwreck has been defeated twice. First, the ship almost sunk after an attack by a Japanese submarine. An American destroyer and Dutch destroyer managed to get the ship on the beach at Tulamben and saved part of the cargo. After this, the ship has been lying there for years and was already falling into disrepair until in 1963 the Gunang Ayung spits out lava flows, accompanied by earthquakes. As a result, the shipwreck slipped into the sea and found it’s peace there.

Today, it’s a perfect dive site for divers who can admire the history and the rich vegetation on the wreck. It has emerged as a diverse reef. Because the Liberty is such a diverse habitat with small spaces, burrows and flat levels, it can facilitate many organisms. Around 400 species live on the wreck.

Manta Point

Snorkelling or diving with Manta Rays at Manta Point on Nusa Penida, an island just off the mainland of Bali, is an amazing experience. To get to Manta point, you sail 20 minutes from the coast of Nusa Penida. In the water, the instructor will let you know where to go in the water to find them. Manta Rays are generally very playful and not shy of people so they will probably explore the sea with you together. Although the Manta Ray is large, about 6 meters, there not dangerous. This is one of the most unique diving experiences, that you don’t want to miss!

Crystal Bay

Crystal Bay is located in the south-east off the coast of Nusa Penida. At this dive site, you have the chance to spot the magical giant fish Mola Mola, which is also called the oceanic lump or moonfish. They often swim deep but sometimes they can be spotted a bit more on the surface, among the coral reefs! Besides, there are also wonderful other reef fish to be spotted here among the coral reef. This dive site is known for the best visibility. Crystal Bay owes its name to this, the crystal clear waters!

Secret Bay

Gilimanuk is located in the very southwestern tip of Bali. The ferry to Java departs from this beach with black, volcanic sand. This dark sandy stuff makes it the perfect place for muck diving. The dives in Secret Bay are very shallow – no more than 10 meters during high tide – and the visibility varies between 5 meters – ebb – up to 15m. But because of this nutrient-rich soil, sea life is fantastic here! During this dive, you can go on a voyage of discovery to bizarre animal species such as dragonettes, sea devils, sea needles and many young animal species.

Menjangan National Park

Beautiful walls of healthy coral reefs can be found on the north coast of Bali. The island of Menjangan is located in the northwest of the island. Menjangan means the island of the deer in Indonesia. This is a dream coming true for divers and snorkelers because the waters here are clear and turquoise, and the coral here is unreal. More than 110 species of coral have been identified in these waters! You can also find beautiful fish such as lionfish and frogfish here. The view in the waters around Menjangan can have a range of 50 meters so this is a worthy dive spot to finish this list.
